(Zongyue Liou) The Pearl Museum of Art in Shanghai is pleased to present the exhibition "Long-lasting Design: Reflections and Practices" from July 3 to November 13, 2022. As the first large-scale exhibition of the concept of "long-lasting design" in Shanghai, this exhibition presents the unique and distinctive design thinking and multi-disciplinary practice of design activist Kenmei Ohka in nine units with more than 600 exhibits, including not only the fruitful achievements of "long-lasting design" in Japan, but also the in-depth regional characteristics of objects. In addition to the fruitful achievements of "long-lasting design" in Japan, the exhibition also features a special section called "Echoes: Explorations of Local Designers", in which 10 Chinese designers and brands are selected to present their distinctive explorations of long-lasting design, including (in alphabetical order): Bishan Kobo, engraft, klee klee, Song Yuyang (PEELSPHERE®), Wu Bin (Wu Mo), Yang Tao (Shibu Pin®), Yi Hongbo (Summerwood Fabrics), Lei Zhang & Christoph John & Jovana Zhang (Pinwu Pinwu), and Zhang Na (Recycled Clothes Bank).

The concept of "Long Life Design" was developed by Japanese design activist Kenmei Nagaoka, who said, "We should treat objects with love and care and understand the value of objects that can withstand long use." In the opinion of Dr. Dandan Li, director of Shanghai Pearl Museum of Art and chief curator of the exhibition, "'long-lasting design' gives a dimension of time and emotion to the designed object.
